The Ever-growing Playlist of Joy is a project that will grow and compound as time goes on, sharing happiness and nostalgia in a communal love for music.
A project running alongside my podcast Kids Love Balloons. Each guest is asked to nominate three songs that make them happy. These are discussed, mused over & remembered, then added to the Ever-growing Playlist of Joy which is found on Spotify. It’s also available on this page and on the page dedicated to every podcast episode.
Once you’ve listened to the podcast, get your dancing shoes on and revel in the songs that make the podcast guests happy. Hopefully, they also make you happy!
It makes a rather interesting study, analysing the different type of songs that bring smiles to the guests. Some associate happiness with dancing, others with calm, with energy or simply with associated memories. The whole spectrum is covered here, from 60s folk to a national anthem. From hard house to metal. Electronic to Elvis.
Channel 9 newsreader and Melbourne legend, Peter Hitchener, declared it was the hardest question he’d ever been asked in an interview.
Which three songs would you add? Let me know!
There is one disappointment associated: that Icehouse’s massive 1987 hit Electric Blue is surprisingly not on Spotify. In lieu of it not appearing in the playlist, here’s the video! What a hairtsyle, hey?! That’s gotta make you happy.
